Life and Light – a poem

You came down, in the fullness of time.

A life and purpose, perfection sublime.

Lowly, vulnerable, there in the manger;

from heavenly peace, you came to grave danger.

How clever to send the babe, a King in unlikely form;

No political figure would do, no stature, power or norm.

Your omnipresence a welcomed sight;

the Incarnate changed darkness to light.

Still, evil ears tingled to quiet Your life and Name.

But dreams were had, and wise men fled, and Joseph and family took flight.

Thwarted evil, babe well kept, onward journey, out of sight.

So we ponder the holy babe, God-Man, humble this Christmas day.

Our Savior for our sin sick souls, our Treasure, and Joy foretold.

He came to die, one asks why, but certain was His claim.

A king He came from royalty, and yet a precious babe.

But from David’s line, what prophets said was true.

In fullness of time, it is declared, He came for me and you.

Let all receive His grace and know, true life’s not from a package or bow.

Unworthy are we, but invited to be, a part in redemptions plan.

Don’t linger, don’t wait, time is short each passing day.

Everlasting life found only in His Name.

Come near, draw close, to the One who came to die.

Seek Him and be known; find the answer to your why.

For when Jesus came, then all hope rang;

through starry night and tidings bright.

Across all time rings Life.
