Come to Jesus

As you read the biblical account of Jesus’ teaching, add your thoughts to what I’ve written below. Jesus is the kindest and dearest teacher. But He knows what is best for us. Our tendency to worry, fret, and be discouraged is not good for us. He has the remedy if we come to Him. Often, it is a matter of obedience. Enjoy~

Matthew 11:28-30

” Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭CSB‬‬

What do we learn about Jesus?

1.      Jesus invites us to come to Him.

2.      Even though we will go to Him weary and burdened, He still will receive us. He offers an option to the legalism that the Pharisees want the people to carry. For us relief from the world, our flesh, and the enemy of our souls.

Jeremiah 6:16

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”

3.      He promises to give us rest. The rest is from Him.

4.      He wants us to take all He is and learn from Him. To learn anything from anyone, we must spend time with the person. Spend time with Jesus and you will learn to walk in His ways. We don’t want to be the people He referenced in Jeremiah, do we?

We do not want to be rebellious. We want to come humbly to Jesus, not just for eternal salvation, but for daily salvation from ourselves and the heavy load we carry. We must roll our load over to Jesus and let Him carry it.

5. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords says of Himself that He is lowly and humble in heart. The KJV and YLT say “MEEK and lowly”. Let’s look at what this looked like in His life – TURN TO Philippians 2:5-8

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
6. He says we will find rest for our souls in Him

REMEMBERING MEEKNESS IS AVAILABLE AFTER OUR ETERNAL SALVATION – WHAT DOES FINDING REST FOR OUR SOULS LOOK LIKE IN OUR DAILY LIFE?

7.  He describes His burden as a good one. The best one. It is not related to any man. It is related only to God, and it is easy and light. Salvation in Jesus is the lightest load—no more man-made rules. Christianity is about the heart. We love from our new heart and will love Jesus with our new heart all the days of our lives.

Activity 1: Think of ways you can find rest in Jesus. List 5.

For example, try a quiet entry into the new day with prayer and Bible reading instead of starting the day with the news.

Activity 2: Ponder Jeremiah 6:16 and the people’s response to the Lord. Examine your heart and pray.

Activity 3 – Please share this with someone. Print it and go over it with a new Christian.

  1. Thank you Valerie for this blessed topic. As i read the title i couldn’t resist to comment with the living words from the Bible as i read it today.“Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:8) thinking of Zacchaeus …his solid effort to see Jesus rewarded him.

    • Yes, there is always great reward coming to Jesus. For eternal salvation like Zacchaeus. And after salvation, the rest of our lives to roll our burdens onto Him and learn from Him.
      Thanks for reading ❤️.
