Anxiety Alert-Quick Tips

Christians experience anxiety. Our Lord has many acknowledgments of this fact in His precious word. He felt anxiety, too.

Sometimes, anxiety is vague, and you can’t point to one thing about why it is there. Then, sometimes, you do know. It could be that you need to confess a sin to God and feel the comfort of His Spirit. Or it would be best if you made things right with another person. But if all that is in good order, a Christian can still experience anxiety. To acknowledge it is a step in the right direction!

How to Avoid a collapse with Anxiety:

PRAYER – Go to your knees and tell the Lord all about it. He already knows, but you have a relationship with our loving Father, who cares for you. He is still in control even when your feelings are out of control.

SHARE – Tell someone. The enemy wants you to think you are the only one who feels anxiety. Don’t believe the lie. Whomever you tell can pray for you.

JOURNAL – Even if you don’t usually write down your thoughts, find a way to express them on paper. Acknowledging your thoughts using your handwriting can settle your mind. You can throw away the paper once you’ve reflected.

EXERCISE – Getting active, especially if you use a video, will get your mind focused on the sequence and method that exercising requires. Soon your anxiety loses first place. Plus deep breaths will calm you.

DISTRACTION – Do another activity – your hobby, or clean out a cabinet or closet, or your refrigerator.

SING – If you find a praise video with lyrics then your brain has to focus on singing and the words. It is powerful. Plus in your suffering, you are giving God praise.

MINISTER – Call or visit someone you know who needs encouragement. Keep your focus on them.

SCRIPTURE WRITE – I can’t say enough about the mind connection to the small motor skill of handwriting. Like coloring or working a puzzing, writing engages the mind. Scripture is effective to bring peace.

TRY AN INTENTIONAL MIND ACTIVITY-

  • 5 things you see
  • 4 things you touch
  • 3 things you hear
  • 2 things you taste
  • 1 thing you feel

The power behind these activities is your intentionality to bring God into each one. The anxiety has you self focused. As you intentionally do an activity, give God the glory for being with you and being your Helper. He runs to the weak. As you seek Him you will find Him in your struggle. He is with you.
