Prayer Prompts for Trials

Where are you now? Are you in a waiting period? I sometimes call that God’s Waiting Room. Has a conflict with another made you wonder about the outcome? Are there more months than money? A sketchy medical report has you waiting for more tests and results. Or, your grief over someone you loved is consuming.

These and so many other situations come into our lives and test us. Sometimes, things are okay, but still, you are waiting for God’s direction. The waiting can be excruciating. While the Lord uses all these things to mold us into His faithful followers, trials still hurt and bring discomfort.

When I taught Bible study in a past season, I wanted to encourage the ladies to pray during their trials. Based on my own walk with the Lord, I included ways to challenge them to choose prayer over worry and to come near to God even when it’s hard. I had learned that distancing myself from Him makes me unwise, which only adds more misery.

On the other hand, prayer helped me feel God’s powerful love and presence. Like the chocolate swirl in vanilla ice cream, prayer connected me to the One who loves me. My perspective of Him changed. I understood He is good. And He is good to me. I believed His loving intention for me. My trust in Him grew.

So, I created ideas to encourage the ladies to pray. Ideas to start their prayers, learn to be grateful, and see the Lord as the Counselor and Helper He is.

I hope these prompts will motivate you to cherish your relationship with Jesus and talk to Him in your most challenging times. And if you are able, I find getting on my knees helps my heart to want what He wants.

PRAYER PROMPTS FOR TRIALS:

Lord, I ask Your forgiveness if I caused any part of the trial.

Forgive me, Lord, for putting my hope in any situation or person. Help me to put all my hope in You.

Lord, help me not to waste time complaining but to learn to pray deeper and appreciate Your Word more.

Lord, when my emotions are bigger than the truth, help me to fall to my knees and cry to You for help.

Lord, thank you for the peace that passes understanding. It is a gift that never fails because You are my peace.

Help me, Lord, to remember to sing your praises and teach me how to pray through the trial.

God, display your power in my trial.

Time is important to You, Lord, so help me not to hate the waiting.

PROVISION THROUGH TRIALS:

Thank you for Your Holy Spirit, who works in me.

Thank you for my wonderful church.

Thank you for (a gift or talent you have) that I can work on while I wait on you to work out this problem.

Thank you for giving me people who pray for me. Remind me to pray for them.

Thank you that I can follow You and that You will provide for me.

Thank you for my salvation. No trial can take that away.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37

  1. Valerie, this blog was full of God’s truth. And it was evident that you have learned these truths in the crucible of our Lord’s refining process. May we each come forth as gold before our Lord. Job 23:10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold. ESV
