Family Inheritance

Link to Simple Study of this passage at the bottom.

In Colossians 1:9-14, we read about the benefits of knowing Christ and His awesome power given us at salvation. Our inheritance is substantial and valuable. As His daughters and sons, we inherit way more than we comprehend. The passage helps us to “forget not all His benefits”(Psalm 103:2). As you read it, change every you to I, and us to me. That will make it personal to you. Or scripture write the passage, https://valerierumfelt.com/2020/08/02/improve-your-quiet-time/.

Colossians 1:9-14 NIV
[9] For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, [10] so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, [11] being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, [12] and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. [13] For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, [14] in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Paul and his friends prayed for the church. And the passage reveals the family inheritance for Christians then and now. Not only is the list inspiring, but praying for other Christians and the church is also an example for all of us to follow.

One day, as I meditated on the passage, I broke it down so that I could grasp the full impact of who I am in Christ and my family inheritance. I hope you are comforted and inspired as you ponder what I’ve written. These are eternal truths that are unchanging, not based on my works, and unconditional. Some days, you just need to know!

Never forget the love of God for you!

*I begin with the phrase, “fill you with” in verse 9 and continue, making each concept personal.

FILL ME WITH – the knowledge of your will – HOW? Through wisdom and understanding – FROM WHO? the Spirit.

SO THAT

  • I may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way
  • I may bear fruit in every good work
  • I may grow in the knowledge of God
  • I may be strengthened with all power(by His might)

SO THAT

  • I may have great endurance and patience
  • I may give joyful thanks to the Father

WHAT HAS THE FATHER DONE?

He has qualified me to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light

He has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son He loves,

IN WHOM I HAVE REDEMPTION, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

Stop now and praise and thank Him for His generous love for you.

Thank you, Lord, for your love for me.

  1. Sometimes it is just wonderful to remember the basic relationship we have with God the Father and His Son, Jesus. What a wonderful encouragement to us.

    Thank you for writing.
