Finding Rest in Jesus This Christmas Season

Years ago, I thought December was supposed to be hectic. But somewhere along the way, I decided to focus more on Jesus’ birth rather than what the world had to offer in parties, shopping, hosting, and overeating. Jesus defines the holiday season, and He is more about rest than expectations. So I can still participate in church activities and family gatherings, and enjoy gorgeous decor in malls and on houses, but I keep my focus on the reason He came.

As you live each day of the Christmas season, I hope you remember to keep up your biblical practices. Having the morning quiet time is a lifelong habit. And it starts your day with an attitude of finding rest in Jesus. It is rest because you agree with His Spirit inside you to be at peace and learn from Him. Incase you missed it, I offered an idea for bible reading during December here: https://valerierumfelt.com/2025/11/29/december-a-perfect-time-for-your-morning-quiet-time/

You can write each days scripture and then pray them and thank God for what comes to mind. Draw pictures or write a poem about what you imagine based on the scriptures.

If you happen to have a full calendar of events, make time to learn from Jesus. As the graphic above states, He is our rest.

If you feel burdened and worn out already, go to Him in prayer. Your blood pressure will return to normal, and your neck muscles will relax. He is good for our weary souls.

If you are lonely, then learn about the birth of Jesus. The twists and turns of the story go beyond your children’s Sunday School class experience. As you research His story, you will sense His presence and feel His peace.

Lastly, I believe the scripture graphic above carries essential meaning, and you will find treasure if you explore it. God desires for you to turn to Him in all things.

During the season, my prayer for all my readers is that you take more time during each day to sit with Him. Do the opposite of what is demanding your attention. Sit down and pray. Write some scripture. Sing songs or carols to Him. You will get up with renewed energy and do the tasks waiting for you with His glory in mind. As you honor Him with your time, He multiplies it.

Remember to let Him give you rest. It is an unspeakable gift that He is ready to offer you, even during the Christmas season.
